Community participation - Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) is committed to community participation. Consumers, carers and community members can be involved in different ways to help maintain a high quality health service for the AHW catchment community

To learn more about consumer participation at AWH, please refer to the AWH Consumer and Community Engagement Framework. (Link coming soon ) The Framework establishes a foundation for AWH to build on its community and consumer participation activities and provides a shared understanding of what engagement and participation means at AWH.

  • To improve the quality and safety of health care
  • To help health service planning
How might you participate?

At AWH consumers, carers and community members contribute in a variety of ways. Some examples include:

  • Responding to patient satisfaction surveys
  • Providing feedback on AWH services
  • Involvement in focus groups, interviews and workshops
  • Involvement on committees and working groups
  • Volunteering to help improve patients experience while in hospital

AWH Volunteers

Volunteers from the AWH catchment community already link with staff in projects designed to improve services at AWH. Some achievements include:

  • Development of the Consumer and Community Engagement Framework (LINK¬†coming soon)
  • Establishment of the Consumer & Volunteer Network
  • Development of a Consumer & Community Participation Plan (LINK coming soon)

AWH has a Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC), including volunteer community members who bring their own diverse experience and knowledge to their shared interest in the provision of good health care. This committee advises the AWH Board and Chief Executive on priority areas and issues requiring consumer and community participation, and on matters of community interest or concern. The Committee operates as a sub-committee of the AWH Board under a Terms of Reference. One of the CAC’s key tasks is to develop, implement and monitor the organisation’s Community Participation Plan (LINK).

CAC members are available to talk to community groups about the CAC’s activities and to discuss how others in the community may participate to ensure good quality patient care at AWH. If you would like a CAC members to speak to your local group, please contact Steph Simmons, as below:

Broader health participation ‚Äď The OurHealth website¬†is an initiative of the Consumers Health Forum (CHF) supported by the Australian Government and offers consumers, carers and community members a helping hand to better navigate the health system, to point them towards reliable websites that can provide useful information and to provide a place for consumers to share their experiences, ideas and thoughts on healthcare.
