About our volunteers

The contribution of Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) volunteers is invaluable, providing additional support to patients, their families and staff.  We like to place our volunteers with programs that are fulfilling and match their skill set.  We recruit all year round so if you would like to become an AWH volunteer please contact the Volunteer Office.

What does it take to be a volunteer?
  • You will need some spare time, in most cases volunteering requires a regular commitment of between three and four hours each week.
  • You will need to be patient, and care about what you do.
  • Good communication is essential, you will need to be a good listener and talk about a variety of subjects.
  • You will need to pass a Police Criminal Record Check successfully.
  • Having a sense of humour is also helpful.

To become a volunteer you will need to fill in an application form and there are a number of key questions on the form, which are explained as follows:

Referees
Before an official offer to work as a volunteer is made at least two referees will be checked by AWH. The referees given by the applicant must be recent or relevant to the application.

Police Check
Prospective Volunteers will be required to have a valid and clear Police Criminal Record Check (PCRC). It  is a pre-requisite for entering the volunteer services at AWH.   We will undertake the PCRC in a timely manner and the cost will be borne by the organisation. The Volunteer Coordinator or designated representative will record the number and date of the PCRC in the volunteer personal file and data base.  In the event that a PCRC is not clear of criminal offences it may result in the refusal of the volunteer application form.

Public Liability Insurance
AWH through Victorian Hospital Association (VMIA) holds insurance cover for volunteer workers in respect of charitable and fundraising activities for the benefit of AWH.
