This Mental Health Allied Health Program is for Allied Health Graduates who have a Dietitians Australia accredited dietetics degree OR a Speech Pathology Australia accredited speech pathology degree. The program is designed to give newly graduated professionals the hands-on, in-depth learning and experience required to become a well rounded and experienced professional. 

The Mental Health Allied Health Early Careers Dietitian program runs for 1 year.

The Mental Health Allied Health Early Careers Speech Pathology program runs for 1 year. 

Areas of practice may include Infant, Child, and Youth Services (ICYMYS), Adult Community Mental Health, the Acute Inpatient Units and Older Person’s Mental Health (OPMHS) across sites located in Albury, Wodonga, Beechworth and Wangaratta. 

  • A supportive team environment.

  • Full-time employment (1.0 FTE) to provide stability and security.
  • Supportive orientation program including Supernumerary days.
  • Workshops to support your development as an Allied Health Clinician working in Mental Health.
  • Rotations through our adult acute inpatient units and community teams.
  • Dedicated educational support from Nursing and Allied Health Educators, the Mental Health Professional Development and Practice team as well as experienced mentors and clinicians across the service.
  • Regular individual and group clinical supervision.
  • Relocation support if you are moving from another town, region or city (if applicable)

AWH has access to the Regional Mental Health Workforce Incentive program. The Incentive program is designed by the Department of Health to support the attraction, relocation, and retention of mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) workers to Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Services across rural and regional Victoria.

Candidates relocating may be eligible for grants to cover expenses such as a removalist, travel fees, accommodation costs, school fees, etc. For a more detailed understanding of the incentive program get in touch with us via email or phone. 

For graduates following the Speech Pathology pathway, you may be eligible for grand funding via the Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy Student Grant Program. Please get in touch with us if you need further information. 

To apply for our Mental Health Allied Health Graduate program, you must apply directly to Albury Wodonga Health.

  • 2 professional referees (including phone number and email address).

Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Not currently in a graduate program


For the Dietitian Pathway:

  • Hold a Dietitians Australia accredited dietetics degree
  • Eligible for DA membership and Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) status.


For the Speech Pathology Pathway:

  • Hold an Accredited entry level speech pathology course recognised by Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Eligible for Speech Pathology Australia Membership and the meet criteria for the certification program, Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP), as part of Speech Pathology Australia.

Grant Funding

As an occupational therapy or speech pathology student, you may be eligible for grant funding to work in rural Victoria.
