Security at AWH to Align with Current Needs
Tuesday, 18 February 2025 / Albury Wodonga Health
Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) is making strategic adjustments to its security services to ensure resources are deployed effectively while maintaining our commitment to staff and patient safety.
Over the past four years, security coverage has remained at increased levels to support the additional demands brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. As we transition beyond this period, we are refining security coverage to align with current operational needs and risk assessments, while maintaining strong safety measures across our hospitals.
What’s Changing?
The revised security model ensures a balanced and sustainable approach:
- Wodonga Campus: Adjusted from 48 hours per day (two x 24-hour) to 24 hours per day (one x 24-hour).
- Albury Campus: Adjusted from 72 hours per day (three x 24-hour) to 48 hours per day (two x 24-hour).
These changes ensure security resources are positioned where they have the greatest impact, particularly in high-demand areas such as Emergency Departments.
Safety Measures in Place
AWH remains committed to maintaining a safe environment through:
- Continuous Monitoring: The Security Control Room will oversee security operations across both campuses via CCTV and ensure escalation to site teams, as required.
- Weekly Security Assessments: Security coverage will be reviewed regularly, with adjustments made as needed.
- Staff Safety Support: Security escorts to vehicles remain unchanged and available for all staff after hours, per the request process.
- Enhanced Response Systems: A streamlined QR Code and MS Forms request process will enable staff to request security support efficiently.
While the role of security personnel remains largely unchanged, adjustments will ensure that security officers are strategically positioned to support clinical teams while maintaining a focus on safety and operational efficiency.
Violence and aggression towards healthcare workers remain a serious concern, and AWH continues to advocate for greater community awareness and support. We encourage staff to report any safety concerns to their manager so that appropriate measures can be taken.
AWH will continue to evaluate security coverage to ensure the highest level of protection for staff, patients, and visitors.
