Connecting with Country consultation milestone

A Connecting with Country workshop with local Aboriginal Elders, community members and AWH staff has marked a milestone for the master planning stage of our new hospital, with more than a thousand people now having had an opportunity to find out more about the new Border regional hospital.
Consultation began in April and has included pop-up information sessions in the hospitals and local shopping centres, briefings for local councils and key community and business groups, staff briefings and master planning meetings.
The first Connecting with Country ‘design jam’ is an important step in the master planning process and was attended by more than 20 local Aboriginal representatives.
It explored how the community can contribute to our understanding of Country, and how to embed that in the design process so everyone feels safe and welcomed by Country.
Aunty Valda Murray from Duduroa Dhargal Aboriginal Corporation said it was a great opportunity to put the community’s view forward.
“We need to be looking at how we can improve things for the future, so we need to be looking at getting this right… planning something that is appropriate for us, our families and our loved ones,” she said.
The design jam took place on Wiradjuri Country and was facilitated by Yerrabingin.
