The Cognitive Dementia and Memory Service (CDAMS) is a specialist multidisciplinary diagnostic Clinic for people experiencing memory loss or changes to their thinking and for those who care about them. People who are in the early stages or have an uncertain diagnosis are suitable for referral.
CDAMS provides expert clinical diagnosis, individualised management plan, communication with medical specialists, education, links to community services,and direction in future planning.
Early diagnosis is important to determine appropriate treatment needs and enable planning for the future and provides timely opportunity for clients and carers to learn about the condition, understand changes as they occur, and to cope with the day to day issues of cognitive impairment.
A written referral from your General Practitioner (GP) or Medical Specialist is preferred, as we require a full medical history and test results prior to attending the clinic.
The initial assessment, is conducted in either the client's home or in the clinic, this is followed by a clinic appointment with either a Geriatrician and/or Neuropsychologist.
At the conclusion of the assessment the outcomes and recommendations are given in writing to the client’s GP and to the client their family or carer, and a family meeting to discuss the diagnosis is offered.

Exclusions: Patients with any of the following are not appropriate referrals.
- Mini Mental Status - exclude <10
- Medically Unstable / Acute Illness / Delirium
- Other emerging Neuro-degenerative Disorders EG, MS, Huntington’s – Not eligible if there is a more appropriate service e.g. ARBIAS, MS Society.
- Living in residential care
- Primarily Behavioural Issues – Refer to DBAMS
- Capacity Assessments – Neuropsychological assessments for capacity only are excluded.
