Full residential mental health support services including a High Dependency Unit (HDU), and special services for the elderly

At times a person may need additional support through residential care with inpatient management and treatment during an acute phase of mental illness. 

Albury Wodonga Health Mental Health Service has a combination of short and long stay specialised 24 hour high level supervision services, available to voluntary and referred clients.  These services are for people with a serious mental illness or who have accompanying significant levels of disturbance and psychosocial disorders.   

Services include: 

Blackwood Cottage is a 15-bed residential aged care service with 24 hour nursing care for people over 65 years of age who are experiencing behavioural difficulties associated with their mental illness.

Care is focused on building strategies to improve quality of life, while supporting participation in daily living activities, as well as enjoying hobbies and general interest to reduce challenging behaviours.

The Kerferd Unit is a purpose built 20-bed facility, including provision for high level supervision, for adults aged 18 years and over who need the support of 24 hour inpatient assessment, diagnosis and treatment of an acute mental illness.

Support for clients is provided by a clinical team, including social workers, occupational therapists and psychologist, in consultation with a case manager and community mental health service.

Based at Albury Hospital Nolan House is a 24-bed specialist inpatient assessment and treatment service with the addition of a High Dependency Unit.
