Surgical Services are responsible for the management of elective and emergency surgery across Albury Wodonga Health. We care for patients during the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative periods.
Pre-operative care is facilitated through the Elective Services Access Unit and Pre-admission Clinic. Intra-operative care is delivered through Albury and Wodonga Hospital Theatres and post-operative care is delivered through our Surgical 1 and 2 wards, Day Only (Albury) and Day Procedure Unit (Wodonga). Dental Services is located in High street Wodonga and provides basic emergency, general and denture services.

Operating Theatres – Wodonga and Albury
As an organisation the Operating Theatres comprise 7 Theatres, 2 procedure rooms and a cardiac catheterisation lab.
Wodonga Operating Theatre comprises 3 operating rooms and 2 procedure rooms. Albury Operating Theatre comprises 4 operating rooms. Surgical services currently operates within the following disciplines;

- Some medical services such as EBUS (endobronchial ultrasound) and TOES (transoesophageal echocardiogram)
In addition, the teams provide anesthetic support to outlying departments including Medical Imaging and Mental Health.
Referral to our services
Patients are referred to us for theatre from the specialist VMO’s, Emergency Department, and wards. They are admitted to the service via the Day Surgery Units, Emergency, and the wards.
Elective Services Access Unit and Pre-admission Clinic
Elective Services Access Unit places patients onto the elective waiting list, books procedures, arranges Pre-admission Clinic appointments as required.
Patients are referred to the Elective Surgery Access Unit from a specialist clinic or a specialist medical practitioner’s private consulting rooms.
Patients will receive written or verbal notification when they are placed onto the waiting list and when the booking is made. An urgency category is given by the doctor requesting the procedure.
Handy Hints:
- Complete and return your Request for Admission (RFA) promptly when you have received them, as the procedure cannot be booked until this is done.
- Notify Albury Wodonga Health of changes of address and next of kin.
- Have transport and a carer arranged for going home from hospital.
- Keep a list of medications in your wallet.
- Know your allergies.
